1943 Memorial

Every year in December we honour  our ancestors, family, friends and Kalavrytan compatriots who lost their lives in the WWII massacre of 1943.

A traditional Greek Orthodox memorial service is followed by laying of wreaths outside the church. Speeches and special presentations accompany lunch for all members and guests at Society House.

In the act of remembrance and respect, we pledge the vow of eternal peace.

National &
Cultural Days

Central to the Society's annual calendar is the commemoration and observance of National Days of Historical events of significance to Kalavrytans.

For over 40 years Society members have led the procession through Sydney's CBD, to the Opera House for 25th March Independence Day ceremonies. Bearing aloft the 'Lavaro of the Revolution' in honour of the Rebels of 1821 who started the fight for independence in our namesake Monastery of Aghia Lavra.

Regular gatherings for members, friends and guests are colourful threads running through the weave of our social life.

Mother's and Father's Days lunches, Taverna Nights with home cooked food, wine, music and dancing - are all an expression of our cultural zest for life and renowned hospitality.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Music & Dance

Formal Dances have been enjoyed by members and friends for over 50 years, celebrating Independence Day and New Year's Eve.

And since 1999 the Society has organised and promoted many Traditional Folk Music Functions featuring singers and musicians brought especially from Greece. These events reinforce the links to stories, history and landscape as related in the music and dance traditional to our region.

'Aghia Lavra House', located  in Sefton, has been home base of society lifer 35 years, and continues to be the venue for social functions and meetings.
